This is a different style than my usual work. It's enjoyable to break out from routine and do something new. Hope you like it.
On a side note, now that the weather is getting wet and cold here in the Pacific Northwest, you all should be seeing more work from Craig soon. He's such an avid gardner and all around "outside person" that it's hard to get him to stay at his easel when the sun is shining. But now that his garden has been put to bed for the winter and the last of the apples have been picked, he will have a lot more time for painting. This very large "work in progress" measures 40" x 30". Craig and I decided to stretch our artistic muscles with a truly HUGE painting. This photo doesn't do justice to how enormous this painting seems when your standing next to it. The white space between the Jack Russell's paws will be a blue bowl filled with cherries and the white spots are cherries that have escaped the bowl. This commission is the mate to the first "Rose Garden Frolic" that I posted to the blog a couple days ago. The yellow roses were inspired by a variety that the client has blooming in her own garden. In an e-mail to us recently, one of our clients described how her red dachshund use to spend many happy hours digging for ground squirrels in the backyard. The Doxie's friend, a black Cocker Spaniel, was always there to cheer her on. This painting was particularly challenging because both of the dogs have passed over the Rainbow Bridge and there are no existing photos of them. Even without a reference photo to work from, I hope I was able to capture the spirit of their fun game.
